At the University of Twente, we lead the way in blending technology, science, and engineering with social sciences, aiming to make a significant impact on our surroundings. As students, scholars, and teachers, our motivation stems from a profound sense of unity with those who harbor an inquisitive and entrepreneurial mindset.
Initially named the Twente Technological University of Applied Sciences when established in 1961, the University of Twente quickly made a name for itself through the unique integration of technology and social sciences. By summertime of 1986, it took on its contemporary designation, the University of Twente.
The University of Twente provides both undergraduate and graduate degree courses, utilizing the dynamic Twente Education Model (TOM). This educational approach promotes captivating, project-based learning revolving around various themes explored in periods of 10 weeks. This methodology encourages students to surpass the limits of their majors, instilling a cross-disciplinary understanding.
Within this structure, students collaborate in multidisciplinary teams to examine given tasks from multiple angles. This interactive learning builds a comprehensive understanding that technical resolutions often intertwine with societal, economic, and design complexities inherent in the broader social context. Hence, the University of Twente does not only offer typical bachelor's and master's programmes but equips students with a holistic perspective in their area of study.
We thrive owing to our adeptness in amalgamation where we integrate advanced technological research that we deem crucially relevant to behavioural and social sciences. A primary component in our social influence rests on the substantial attention we accord to the commercial utilisation of knowledge or the capability to transform intricate knowledge into practical economic activities and social uses.
We currently find ourselves in a world grappling with extensive environmental, economical, social, and political dilemmas. As such, scientific investigation takes a critical place in forming conditions that will uphold life on Earth. Our research institutions steadfastly focus on diverse areas such as nanotechnology, technical medicine, behavioural sciences, and geo-information science along with Earth observation.
The world is wrestling with significant challenges across environmental, economic, social, and political dimensions. Here, scientific research takes centre stage in shaping conditions that will perpetuate life on our planet. Our research bodies are deeply invested in a range of domains, from nanotechnology and technical medicine to behavioural sciences and geo-information science, including Earth observation.
Our power stems from our ability to merge disciplines, undertaking pioneering research in technologies that we find critically intertwined with behavioural and social sciences. A core aspect in forging societal change lies in our firm focus on commercialising knowledge -- the skill to transmute abstract knowledge into economically viable ventures
At the University of Twente, we prioritize inspiring education, groundbreaking research, and pertinent innovation. Over 3,000 dedicated scientists and professionals ensure we fulfill these core values. Given that the UT is an integral part of an ever-evolving international academic landscape, it is crucial for our staff members to continually invest in their professional development. This inherent growth allows them to align with modern educational trends and equip them with the skills necessary to develop successful grant applications.
